Live Fire Qualification Session

We'll help you meet live fire requirements!

Time
1 Hour
Price
$120 cash
Details
There are quite a few towns in Massachusetts such as Braintree, Quincy and Weymouth that require live-fire. Very soon the entire state will require live-fire due to the new law that passed on 8/01/24. Boston Gun & Rifle Association "BGRA" provides live-fire certifications for students who have previously attended a basic firearms safety course that did not include a live shooting exercise.

Our certified instructors will review safe firearm handling and the loading/unloading procedures with you before you fire a 9mm semi-auto pistol or .38 special Ruger-Six revolver.

You will receive a letter that will verify to your licensing authority that you have completed a live-fire exercise from Boston Gun & Rifle Association.

Note: You must provide a copy of the basic firearms safety course certificate you received from a previous class and your ID to verify your identity.

Details
Starting April 22, 2025, California has begun issuing out-of-state CCW permits. California Penal Code section 26165, subdivision (a)(6) requires applicants to complete a live‐fire shooting exercise for each handgun they intend to carry in California. The live-fire course must be completed with a qualified instructor. We are now offering to conduct the required live-fire course for prospective applicants!
  • The actual test requirements will vary depending on the county you are applying with. Please check your county's website for details.
  • You will have 3 attempts to pass and a time limit of 30 minutes. Additional attempts will require a $25 fee. You may have up to five total attempts per session.
  • You must bring each pistol you intend to carry in California and pass the test with each one. If you bring one pistol, you may use all three attempts with that pistol. If you bring three pistols, you will have one attempt per pistol.
  • The amount of ammo you need will depend on which CA county you are applying with and on the number of attempts you perform. You must purchase the ammo from the range as BGRA is a 100% lead-free range.
